Porn Posters in HMV

Posted by charliegrrl on November 20, 2006

Music shops, like HMV and Virgin Megastores, are full of porn. Not just lads mags, but porn posters, calenders and now even dvds.

Below are some lads mags and playboy posters in HMV.

Furthermore, they sell porn dvds.

HMV sells Snoop Dogg’s Playboy Bus Tour.Snoop Dogg Playboy DVD

Snoop Dogg went on tour, and took several women with him to produce ‘behind the scenes’ action for Playboy.

The dvd begins with the women lining up next to a Playboy bus, showing off their bodies, as if they are animals at an auction. Snoop Dogg makes a proclamation that the film is a means of challenging the predominant use of white women in Playboy porn, by allowing women of all sorts of ethnicities, to strip for Playboy. He rambles on about how stripping for this Playboy film is emancipating for black women, as they are showing the world that black women can strip as well as white women…

The film goes on to show a contest of how to give the best blowjob. The women take it in turns to suck off and deep-throat a dildo for the camera. One of the co-hosts says to a woman, ‘You have BDSL lips’, which stands for ‘Big Dick Sucking Lips’.

At one point Snoop tells the women that he needs obedience, and that they must ‘have their minds focused on the pimping’. Then they begin an orgy. The women get naked, the men sit in their chairs, fully clothed, while the women give them lapdances. The women get off with one another and masturbate. They show close ups of their vaginas. Snoop tells them, they need to imagine they are stripping for money in a strip club, to get fully in the mood.

All the way through, they refer to the women as ‘bitches’ and ‘ho’s’, and to themsleves as pimps. This happens alot in rap music, but to hear such misogynistic reference to women who were stripping, lapdancing and having ‘lesbian’ sex for Playboy, really emphasised the misogyny of such terminology.

This DVD is porn. So why does HMV sell full on porn..? Just because it is co-hosted by a rapper, doesn’t make it any less porn…

Just when you thought woman-positive pornography was a bunch of delusional sexee grrl baloney.

    Unf’ingbelieveable.

I think it (SDD DVD) illustrates that it’s not even about the sex and titillation, but the humiliation and subjugation of females – the power differential (men clothed, women not).

Men get turned on by the degrading aspect, not the sexual one.

It’s porn, no question. I cannot believe that HMV are selling it. There will come a time that no store anywhere will be porn-free.

  3. I hate snoop, he is so in love with himself and his imagined power. Is this another way to mainstream porn to manufacture it by rap artists? Maybe they will all jump on the empowerment wagon for woc by depicting them in porn. His ‘bus’ malarkey seems to be popular now – always thinking of new and whacky ways to promote their misogynist drivel. Oh, year baby I is the pimp and when I say jump babz, you say how high Pimp daddy snoop a poop.

In addition, that poster of all the naked women, nice pile of meat there. Yuk!

  4. Forgot to say Mmm music shops selling porn now, it is all getting somewhat blurry. My 19yo daughter is even commenting on the music channels proclaiming loudly that they are nothing but porn. Well I know she is ‘my’ daughter but at 19, they have a mind of their own.

On one of the music channels (on Freeview) they have stuff like the FHM Hour or 100 Most Sexy Girl Videos etc. It’s blatant.

I actually feel sick after reading about that dvd. How lovely of a woman even to comment on other women’s wonderful BDSL lips – how empowering that they have the best lips to degrade themselves for the pure pleasure of snoop and his pimp buddies (not to mention bad grammar – BDSLips lips? Maybe she had her brain implanted in her chest).

Why don’t HMV just get blown up shots of page three and top shelve pictures and sell them as posters? I fear that you are right Stormcloud – you cant go into a book/music shop without seeing two women pressed-by-the-breasts against each other and you can even by nipple tassles from BHS! Methinks I will be shopping online in the comfort of my misogyny free living room (best leave the tele off too then eh Sparkle?)

  7. Oh what a fantastic site – the pornographic poster. The saddest thing is, for impressionable self conscious teenage males it’s actually seen as peculiar and feminine not to have such a poster. The mysogynist marketing behind them preys on such teenage insecurities.
I really like the campaigning you’ve done against lads’ mags. I’ve made a few comments on my blog about the NUS’s possible ban of lads’ mags – let me kow what you think.

HMV actually has a ponr section in my city (Belfast Northern Ireland), it’s on the top shelf above the martial arts DVDs. It’s really horrible while trying to browse, while you see guys browsing their masturbation material. I just want to go over and slap them all.

I’ve emailed them about it twice but they never reply. They also sell “softcore” porn in the main film section, under Russ Meyer who is sthe director. It’s all women with huge busts with titles like “super vixens” etc.

I’ve never seen anything that bad in the posters section.. although I haven’t looked through it in a whhile because I was put off by it the last time. They really need to fucking die.

I placed a boycott playboy sign between the playboy mansion xbox games the other day. I hope SOMEONE got the message..

  9. Grace I am becoming a TV free zone. I am morphing into a grown up teenager sat in my bedroom with a book and my laptop!

Just popped on to see if there was anything new and had another glance at the top poster – it struck me as funny in a way because it’s so unbelievable staged – the brunette looks so awkward and seems to have that ‘oh sorry i thought you were someone else’ look on her face while the blonde woman seems to be going for a more ‘this is soooo boring’ look as she dozes off. You can just imagine some fuckwit with a camera going ‘up a bit…down a bit’ to get their nipples in line, yuk! Reminds me of the ‘hot lesbians’ misnomer – lesbians are clearly not what men find to be ‘hot’ because lesbians are among the real living population whereas those pictures probably aren’t even what THOSE women look like in reality -so what they find hot is airbrushed, orange women who are holding each other suggestively FOR men to wank over them.

Is anyone else worried about the jutting hip bones and ribs of the women in the third poster? Not to mention how their skin is SO orange that their nails GLOW white against their bodies?

I’m sorry I actually feel ill.

I can’t believe people think that this is alright. How are boys going to grow up to respect women if they are taught to think that this is in any way acceptable?

In reply to Grace, Having Sky at home I have about 15 music channels, I find it dificult to find one that isn’t playing a music video that doesn’t objectify women in some way shape or form. However I’am told by me peers when I raise the issue not to be so ‘sensitive and prudish’ (thier words not mine) Is it prudish to dislike the vile way that women continue to be portrayed in our supposedly free and equal society? How can that be in any way liberating for women, they are again conforming to masculine ideas of sexuality instead of thier own womanhood. Ye Gods those poor misguided women!

Eww that is still squicking me out…

I find it astonishing that a black person, who should know about racism, stereotyping, exploitation and oppression, should turn around and do it to a whole gender. Snoop dog has done more to make porn, ie, the objectification and exploitation of women, cool – he took what hef started and really ran with it – it’s all tied in with the “black cool “hiphopimp” (my word) culture. He was the first to tie in hip hop with porn, making a porn movie using his music – How very enlightened, ground-breaking, and progressive of him to *gasp* proclaim that black women can strip for playboy too! How grateful those women must feel having the pimp daddy’s approval (and the great hef’s!)! I fucking hate him and have done for a long time – he’s going to be in for one big backlash soon when he experiences women’s collective anger. Let’s hope all his honourary “bitches” (this is actually the ethos hef started with his harem of bunnies), come to their feminist senses soon – don’t hold your breath – but ya never know, sometimes a snowball gets really rolling and picks up very quickly as it gathers speed, ready to hit anything in it’s path and crush it (in this case snoop dog) (attempt at metaphor).

I have seen men in my life who’s world’s revolved around porn and getting their dick’s satisfied – that’s all they think in every spare moment – their whold world is immersed in looking at porn, going to strip clubs, going to see hookers etc – they develop a certain, almost haunted, look about them, a look of total degeneracy, a kind of wasted dissipated look – I know that look and “the dog” has it – he will drown one day in his own filth.

Speaking of word inventions – Glad to see that my “WH Smut word” is being used so publicly now – thanks and yes, I am claiming credit. I have spent a lifetime not claiming credit so here I am! (Pats self on back lol.)

  13. YAY AoM your “WHS Smut” is publicly recognised…respect.
    Your matey sparkle*x

Thanks Sparkles! Sorry I’ve been so quiet, well, Army has been quiet- but I’m still angry – can you tell?? heheh – One day we will be marching together and god help any porn shops, abusive blokes or inflated penii that get in our way – but then, it doesn’t sound like you would need any help anyway!

I feel sick after reading that. I’ve always hated that rapper but until now it was only because of his awful music and videos that he and his ilk have on MTV. What a perv. It’s wrong on so many levels, I agree with all of the comments above. He’s scum for treating women like that, like they’re just animals whose only purpose in life is to serve him and his ugly fat bastard friends (ever noticed how rappers tend to be particularly unattractive looking?). What really gets me is that my little brother is a fan of this pimp’s music and I’m the only one in my family who really objects. Then of course I’m called a prude.

Women have every right to be sexual – on our own terms.

As for the point that we might expect a black man to have some sensitivity regarding degradation, subjugation and oppression – acts like this suggest to me that the battle against sexism is more fundamental to the civilisation of human society than that of racism. Us feminists seem far more attuned to racial sensitivities than black rappers are to women’s rights.

    Once again, Snoop is scum.
